I traveled to Iceland with my friend, Lauren, in July of 2017. This stop was not originally in our plans but due to a booking error on our end, we had to make up distance and spend the night further down into southeastern Iceland. Options were slim so we picked the camp ground that was inland and more secluded. We turned off Route 1 and drove 45 minutes on a gravel road through the most beautiful landscape I have ever seen. I was overcome with emotion by the beauty and the realization that I was truly in Iceland with my best friend. We set up our tent on a small valley surrounded by mountains. This ravine was visible from our tent door...about 100 feet away. Despite the stress and annoyance of our booking error, it was 100% worth it for this camping experience.
