A pair of bald eagles have made a nest in Carillon Park, Dayton Ohio. Impressively, the nest is located above the building that houses the Wright Flyer built by Orville and Wilbur Wright. The eagles have been named Orv and Willa; this is Orv. Here is my story of this photo:
"What a great evening! For a while I€™d known about the pair of eagles nesting at Carillon Historical Park in Dayton but hadn€™t had a chance to try photographing them. We were driving by on I-75 the other evening and swung by to see if we could spot the nest. We soon noticed an eagle flying around; it landed in a nearby tree and perched there for awhile. I was using an ancient, cheap 100-300 zoom lens from my film camera on my new Sony mirrorless camera so I had to focus manually (with more shots than not being OUT of focus). Suddenly without warning the bird took off in my direction. I had no time to focus or even think, so this photo was sheer luck or instinctive autopilot or maybe a little of both. I really don€™t even remember pressing the shutter button. I€™ve never pretended to be a bird photographer but it was an awesome experience to be this close to this majestic bird and to get a photograph I was happy with to boot!"
